Keep a sheet of paper with the following information in your glove box before an accident:
The name, address, and phone number of the owner of the vehicle
The name, address, phone number, and Drivers License Number of each
of the drivers of the vehicle
The name, address, phone number, and policy number of the vehicles
insurance company
-
After the accident first check to make sure you
and any of your passengers are OK
-
If everyone in your vehicle is OK, check the
other driver and/or passengers
-
If it looks like either vehicle has more than
$200 in damage call the local police department to have an
officer dispatched to the location of the accident.
-
Make sure the officer fills out an accident
report. This will become useful for the insurance
companies to determine fault in the accident
-
Provide all the information on the info sheet
from you glove box to the other driver
-
Additionally provide the names of any passengers
in your vehicle
-
Obtain all the same information from the other
driver including passenger names
-
If your vehicle needs to be towed, arrange for the tow company to tow your vehicle to
Whiting's Autobody. You may initially have to arrange to tow to your home. We will pay
all charges on the tow. We will then subsequently forward the bill to the insurance company.
-
Contact the insurance company as soon as possible to report the accident. You insurance
company, or the other drivers company if the claim is against the other driver may have a
recommendation, but you have the right to choose the body shop that will work on your vehicle.
